The is the first book I have read by Alison Chaffin Higdon. Mack, one of the main characters goes to Rose Cottage in Cape Elizabeth for the summer taking her six year old nephew, Luke. They meet the owner of the cottage, Thomas Dugan, who is a loveable eighty year old man who befriends Lucas. One day Mack finds a diary, the diary of Rose dated March 4, 1947. Rose is Thomas' sister who he said died in a tragic accident. As Mack begins to read she uncovers a love story between Rose and a man named Jacob Evans. One day a denim and leather hunk pulls in next door. Within hours Mack is in LOVE. Together Mack and Dean try to unravel the mystery of what actually happened to Rose in 1947. What an amazing adventure for these two people. The characters will all come together in a story of loss, love and friendship. An enjoyable read.

Rose Alison Chaffin Higson 9780957680302 Books Reviews

The story theme was OK but it wasn't developed well.
I felt it was not a very interesting book. Descriptions of sexual encounters in graphic detail seemed to be the focus rather than what could have been a good story if the necessary attention had been directed to the story.
Whatever happened to a little mystique in a good love story. Most people have good imaginations if they are allowed to use them. We don't all need it spelled out for us to appreciate what can happen between a man and women in love.
One good scene of passion can enhance a story - too much ruins it.
It appears to be a sign of the times that Authors think it all has to be laid out there for us. Do they really think we are that slow.
The story itself was great. Had it not been, I would have never finished the book because of the explicit sex. I kept reading to find out what happened in their lives, not their unbridled, indecent behavior. I kept thinking all the trash had to be over..just get on with the story and kept reading. Could have been a much better book if the author had stuck to the actual story. Could have been a sweet story that I would have highly recommended.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a heartwarming story that mends many broken chords in a family. It brought the past and present together very well with a happy ending. A previous review mentioned a slow beginning, but I don't agree. The story was well constructed and carried to a happy conclusion. Another review mentioned non stop graphic sexual scenes, but that was not so. Again, I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
I haven't written a review in quite some time, I usually do it when a book captures my heart and have to let out my emotions. I like to use this media as my escape. This story had me since the first page, Mack, the heroine, and Lucas, her nephew go to Cape Elizabeth for the summer. There they find friendship, love, and adventure.

I will start with Lucas, OMG, he just had me cracking up like crazy, all the
things he said and did with a straight face and all the adults trying hard not to laugh. I think the author capture the innocence of Lucas just right. he's character was well develop and was a joy to read about him and Thomas friendship and the trouble they get in.

Mack finds a diary written by Rose and in there she finds a love story between Rose and Jacob. She falls in love with their story and can't help going in an adventure to find out what really happen. While in her adventure she meets Dean, a charming fellow that you can't help to fall in love with him. He sweeps her off her feet, since their first encounter, in his Harley.

This a beautiful story that captures your heart since the first page. I loved that the characters were well-developed and we actually got to know them. (something that we don't see very often) I liked that that it showed the perspective of various character, I just love to know what the other character is thinking and doing.

There's a lot of things I can say about this book, but why spoil it for you. I was mesmerize by the story and didn't want it to end, I laughed, cried, and was happy about the outcome. yeah, I know many are going to think, I knew that was going to happen, but the author builts up the emotions and yes the twist might be expectant, but it was a heartwarming joy to read about it.
I read the reviews first then looked at the other book one of the reviews recommended. I felt more drawn to this one and really enjoyed. The humor with Lucas had me laughing several times. I did relate to some of the feedback from the reviews. It did get a little sidetracked and lengthy with fill but overall a great read. I am going to read the book that was recommended that was somewhat of a similar story line. I am glad I read this book and highly recommend.
I enjoyed reading this book. The plot was romantic and made love at first sight believable . The relationships developed quickly and the surprising conclusion was great. However, in my opinion, the frequency and graphic descriptions of sexual encounters was a bit overwhelming. Open displays of affection are nice when infrequent, but can seem a bit staged and make observers uncomfortable if it happens too often. Sometimes less is more. This book is worth reading though and deserves three stars. Enjoy.
I was in two minds about buying this book because I usually start by reading the negative reviews on a book first. However the price was really low so I bought it. I'm so glad I did. It's heartwarming, sweet, romantic and steamy. All the things that bothered the negative reviewers weren't an issue for me. The story is so engrossing and I read it in one sitting. I'm not a stickler for perfect grammar, spelling etc and those things usually only bother me if the story isn't able to capture my attention.

I loved the stories - the book contains 2 love stories as mentioned by other reviewers. The secondary characters are all delightful. In fact I liked the h's sister and her doctor husband very much and would love to read their story. When I checked this seems to be a debut book by this author and I think it's an excellent start for her.

I can definitely recommend this book.
