Letters to a Prisoner Connie D Books Reviews
As a grandmother of a jailed abuser, I was deeply moved with this raw account of a mother's trials with her son. As a retired psychologist and minister, I was impressed with Connie's openness and lucidity. It directed me to a deeper awareness of my own feelings toward my beloved grandson. The sense of letdown she expresses rings true and should be cathartic as well as a form of support to other parents and grandparents.
This small books packs a powerful punch. It tells the story of a tormented mother who is dealing with her son's drug problem. Using poetry and letters that tear at your heart, it shows how a mother's love can never be underestimated. The author writes vivid prose to her son and her readers. Her message against drug abuse is shown with passion and compassion. A terrific read!

Review Connie D. expresses her anger, anguish, sadness, and most importantly a mother's never-ending love and hope of redemption for her meth addicted son in this amazing book of letters and poems.
For anyone that has or is dealing with the heart-ache of an addicted family member, this book is a great and informative read.
Personal experience gives us knowledge although sometimes experiences are painful. Knowledge comes at a price. Now it has led you down the path to help others help themselves. Breaking the cycle and re creating a new cycle.
As a licensed clinician I have found that most often what people need the most is to feel cared about. Addiction is another thing entirely since its base is naturally more than two-fold duality of psychological and physical need. Addiction like much of society's ills - is multi caused and usually a combination of so many things we can't possibly imagine. I worked with addicts a while back and know they use to escape the pain. They are usually smart so they are cunning and skilled manipulators. The mentally ill too are often similar in these ways.
It is hard work and needs doing.
Keep the faith.
Letters to a Prisoner is a great collection of poems and letters from a mother who is struggling with watching her son destroy himself with drug addiction. It illustrates the complex issues concerning addiction, incarceration, a mothers unyielding love and the torment of those on the other side of addiction. As an addiction counselor, the book does a great job making the reader feel the frustrations and the insanity of loving an addict. There have been many books written by experts on addiction and recovery but never have I found anything from a mother's point of view whith such expression.
As an expert in the field of addiction recovery, I find it interesting how her journey into her son's addiction becomes an introspective adventure for her as she discovers the truth about addiction and its complex dynamics. Through her emotional adventure she uncovers truths about the faulty judicial system, society turning a blind eye to the ever growing problem, and her own propensity to over look and enable out of love. Her own maternal instinct pits itself against her ever present common sense and logic.
This book is now required reading for our treatment center in hopes of teaching the addicts we work with that there are other people who suffer from their addiction. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, I high recommend this book.
Letter to a Prisoner sends a powerful message. Read it to fully understand!
