The Last Of The Wise Lovers Mystery Conspiracy Suspense and Espionage Literary Fiction Book 1 edition by Amnon Jackont Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This was a good read. My only negative comment is that I knew who the wise lover was way too early. I liked that all the characters had flaws (some very surprising and not revealed until the appropriate time) and never seemed unrealistic, except of course for the one who could not accept reality. It was touching that the son of two flawed characters never turned his back on them but, rather, loved and did his best to protect them. His knowledge that he would have to answer his country’s call for two years was sad to me. I did not understand the relationship between the boy and his girlfriend. Why would his parents push their relationship? Perhaps this is an Israeli thing.
I stayed up all night to finish this story. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery.
First of all, I love the writing style used in this book, and the fact that there are only numbers of notebooks, not chapters. The beginning of the book leads into the first notebook of the series that is written, and it starts out making me feel very confused, much like the narrator. There is definitely some major event that has upset the narrator, and it intrigued me to read on to find out just what that was.
I was pleasantly surprised as I read on to find a very suspenseful and thrilling adventure with the main character, Ronnie Levin. There were many twists and surprises, and without revealing the plot too much, let me say that when the “antagonist” was revealed I was extremely caught off guard.
There is definitely an interesting plot with a 17 year old boy growing up fast and the relationship with his mother was increasingly interesting as the story progressed. It's definitely interesting to see how the boy reacts to what is going on around him and the relationships and mystery that unfolds. It is clear that the boy loves his parents regardless of their flaws, but he remains lost about finding himself.
I didn't find the novel to be highly dependent on the 'espionage' theme, but I did find the book to be very suspenseful and keep me on the edge of my seat reading more.
Jackont creates a fast paced thriller, with attention to details that many other novelists seem to just gloss over. In this book Ronnie Levin goes through a maze of deceit and must figure out what is going on in this mystifying tale. You get a bit of everything in this novel, including straight forward detective work, and attention to details and pacing that will definitely have you wanting to turn each page to get to the final resolution.
There are moments here that you are going to think you have it all figured out, but just when you think you have it, Levin’s journey takes him to all new highs and lows. There is an intrepid style found here in Amnon Jackon’s book, and it’s definitely worthwhile. You will definitely enjoy how it moves forward with fearless prowess. It works well, runs smooth, and definitely packs in a good deal of mystery, action, and suspense. It’s on par with a lot of bestsellers, and definitely worth your time right now.
This story sets its hook early as we are introduced to the wise beyond his 17 years young man Ronnie, who is practically forced to attend a school party dressed as a woman –he never makes it to the party and instead makes a U-turn which quickly turns the story into a fascinating plot of mystery. There are humorous “itchy wig” and “unattractive mean Librarian” moments intertwined with the backdrop of suspense and unexplained occurrences which made me wonder if “normal” is the new “bizarre”. At the onset it seems this is a modern day “Leave it to Beaver” family. Not! Mom is a stay at home mom, Mrs. Perfect, or is she? Dad is mostly away from home as he working his secret job. Son keeps a notebook which helps to explain the unexplainable. There is a blurred line between what’s real and what’s not.
The writing is superb and kept me on the edge as I felt like each person that was after Ronnie was also after me. Even the side characters like Mr. K are richly drawn.
I thought the thrilling escape scene would have been a good place to end, and instead the story concludes on a quieter note with recap conversations between father and son that explains pieces to puzzle – which was needed.
I can’t wait to read the authors other works and I want to know what becomes of Ronnie.
Highly recommend – novels has flashes of brilliance and couldn’t put it down.
